Betulinic Acid
Derived from the white bark of
birch trees (Betula verrucosa) as well as various other botanical
sources, betulinic acid has been used in treating melanoma cells
in mice with success by researcher John Pezzutos. Dr. Antonio
Buzaid at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
showed that in mice injected with melanoma and given previously
given Betulinic acid did not get tumors. It is said that betulinic
acid specifically targets melanoma cells to inhibit growth without
affecting healthy cells. Betulinic acid is also purported to
have anti-retroviral and anti-malarial properties, meaning it
may help with certain diseases. This ingredient also is said
to have anti-inflammatory properties.
