Azadirachta Indica (Neem Tree, Melia Azedarach)
Azadirachta indica is an East
Indian plant/tree of some notoriety in Ayurvedic medicine. This
tree is used in the elimination of parasites including round,
tape (including their segments) and hook worms in India. Neem
is also used for a variety of skin diseases, and the presence
of its leaves keeps bookmites out of libraries in the tropics.
Used as a natural safe pesticide for all crops throughout India,
the powdered rootbark of azadirachta indica is considered an
astringent and febrifuge. This ingredient contains Azadirin,
Margosin, and Catechin. Azadirachta indica may be useful in
cases maltreated with quinine (Clarke), and its seeds are a
source of Margosa Oil, nondrying properties.
