Arachidonic Acid
Arachidonic Acid is a polyunsaturated
fatty acid (Omega-6 acid) that is present in the membranes of
the bodyÂ’s cells and is highly enriched in the brain. Its counterpart
is arachidic acid, which is a saturated fatty acid. Most animals,
including humans, are virtually unable to synthesize arachidonic
acid, meaning they must ingest it in their diet. Dietary sources
of arachidonic acid are virtually always meat, as this ingredient
is not often found in plants. arachidonic acid is an essential
fatty acid. Arachidonic acid is a precursor of prostaglandins.
This ingredient is necessary for virtually every body function,
especially the brain, and a deficiency of archidonic acid can
lead to depression, among others. This ingredient is found in
high levels in fish.
