Alanine is a non-essential amino acid that is found in multiple
forms. In its "L-" form, L-Alanine, is the only form
the body can use and is the most highly concentrated
amino acid released by muscle groups, functioning as
a major energy source in the body. It is an important
participant as well as a regulator in glucose metabolism,
nutritionally important for those suffering from hypoglycemia
and the ketosis of diabetes. Exercise ketosis is thought
to be reduced by the body's use of Alanine supplementation
as well. Alanine also helps the body's natural inhibitory
neurotransmitters which are thought be useful in disorders
involving excessive or sporadic neurotransmission.
