Acesulfame is a potassium salt from Germany with Mol.Wt.
163. It is used as a non-nutritive but safe sweetener
for foods and cosmetics. This substance is 200 times
sweeter than a 3% sucrose solution, and is believed
to be much safer than aspartame. Acesulfame has no aftertaste
and does not degrade with moderate heat (stable at 450
degree F.), so it can be used in baking. It also stores
well without changing flavor as compared to other sweeteners.
Acesulfame is often mixed with other sweeteners to make
a more sugar-like taste.. This ingredient is sometimes
referred to as acesulfame K or acesulfame potassium.
Unlike many sweeteners, products with acesulfame do
not need to have a warning label.
