How
to Cope with IBS Symptoms
Irritable bowel syndrome, also
known as IBS, is a very common disorder that occurs in the intestines.
Estimates show that at least one in five American adults suffer
from IBS. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, and although uncomfortable,
IBS is not as serious as Crohn’s disease or colitis since
there isn’t an inflammation or tumor affecting the intestines.
Fortunately for sufferers, there are various ways to control IBS
symptoms in order to lead a normal life.
IBS symptoms include:
- A change in your bowel movements—you
may either begin experiencing bouts of diarrhea, or frequent
constipation. Mucus may even appear in your stool.
- Gases—you will feel more bloated and
have excess gas in your intestines.
- Abdominal pain or cramping—these can
be mild to severe, lasting seconds to several minutes until
you’re able relieve yourself.
IBS symptoms also include fatigue, headaches,
backaches, anxiety, and a frequent need to urinate. Although IBS
is not as serious as Crohn’s and colitis, you should still
seek medical attention if you are suffering from these IBS symptoms.
There are medications, supplements, and diets that you can look
into for help.
