Humulus Lupulus: Hops for Your Health!
Almost everyone has come into contact with Humulus lupulus at some point and don't realize it, because this grain is used in a variety of fields, including as a homeopathic ingredient. Most commonly known as hops, Humulus lupulus is used in the production of beer and in making many breads. Outside of being a fantastic cooking ingredient, hops have long been used in medicine in an effort to help relieve a variety of symptoms.
Humulus lupulus contains phytoestrogens, which mimic the effects of the hormone estrogen, making this a great option for menstrual problems. Two other compounds present in this substance, lupulone and humulone, are believed to help aid in digestion thanks to their supposed anti-inflammatory properties and ability to help stimulate the production of gastric juices. As if those weren’t enough, Humulus lupulus also contains poly-pheonlic tannins and the amino acid asparagin.
Aside from all these great benefits, Humulus lupulus also is often used in homeopathy as a remedy for:
- Anxiety
- Restlessness
- Sleep disorders
- Jaundice
- Rheumatism
- Toothaches
- Infections
Before you begin taking this, or any other homeopathic remedy, it is important to consult with your primary care provider and an experienced homeopath to ensure you are receiving the best care possible for your individual health care needs. |
