Prevention of human tapeworms
How to prevent an infestation of Human Tapeworms:
- Practice good hygiene.
- Wash your hands often, especially after: handling any animals, handling feces of any kind, using the toilet (home or public), or when out of the country.
- Buy only U.S. inspected meat.
- Do not eat undercooked beef, pork, or fish.
- Do not eat any beef, pork, or fish that has not been refrigerated properly (refrigerator should be set at 40° F and freezer less than 18° F) and never eat meat or fish that has been sitting out without refrigeration.
- Wash all utensils and surfaces that come in contact with raw beef, pork, or fish with antibacterial soap.
- If you think your pet has eaten any rodents take them to a veterinarian for possible treatment.
- Make sure to treat pets against fleas.
- Make sure all fruits and vegetables are washed thoroughly before eating them.
- Dispose of garbage and waste properly in specified areas.
- Drink bottled or boiled water (one minute), and do not drink fountain drinks.
