Homeopathy Definition

Homeopathy DefinitionIf you're doing research trying to answer the question "what is homeopathy", you may be having difficulty finding a homeopathy definition. While it seems like it should be simple to get a definitive answer to this question, the practice of homeopathy is constantly changing, making it difficult to get a detailed description.

From a historical standpoint, the homeopathy definition is a single remedy that follows the principle of "similia similibus curentur", Latin for "let likes be cured by likes." The German doctor Samuel Hahnemann developed homeopathy in the 1700s as an alternative to the invasive and often toxic medical practices of the time. By focusing on ancient remedies, he developed homeopathy, which itself he derived from the Latin term homois pathos, or similar suffering.

This concept stated that natural substances, such as plants and minerals, could be used to address common conditions following the principle of "like cures like". What this means is that what makes a healthy person feel sick should make a sick person healthy. A common example that is used is that if onions make your eyes and nose irritated, a diluted onion solution may be able to help you with similar symptoms cause by a cold.

While this is the traditional homeopathy definition, there are many new types of homeopathy that take these traditional principles and add other forms of natural healing, and even modern medicine, to provide the best care possible.
