The
Gift of Time Makes a Difference
As
the parent of an ADHD child, you see firsthand what
your child endures. From dealing with ADHD
in school to trying to make friends, the ADHD
child goes through a lot, starting at a young age.
Throughout these experiences, you hope that your child
will be able to bounce back quickly and be resilient
enough to try again.
How
can you help your ADHD child be resilient? It sounds
simple, but the most important thing you can do is
to tell your child you love him, support him, and
will never give up on him. Every child needs to have
at least one adult who cares, someone who is deeply
invested in his or her life and welfare. This love
and support provides your child with a foundation
on which to grow, and also a soft place to turn when
the going gets tough.
To
prove this point, think about your own life for a
moment. Have you ever gone through a rocky spell when
it seems like there’s no hope? What helped you
carry on? For most people, the one thing that keeps
them going is thinking about their loved ones. When
all else fails, the person who loves you the most
is the one who gives you the strength to recover from
the pitfalls of life. Parents
of ADHD children are the only people who can offer
this unconditional love and support to the children
who need it the most.
The most precious gift you can give to your child
with ADHD is simply being there through thick and
thin, voicing your support.
