Do You Need Food Allergy Testing?

Food allergy testing can be a tricky experience, some doctors say. The best route for a patient to take is to go through food allergy testing immediately after exhibiting symptoms. They should write down what the reaction was and what they think led to that reaction.

If a person does not provide a doctor with information, the food allergy testing like blood tests and skin tests could result in inaccurate readings. Food allergy testing is very sensitive so if you are allergic to a certain food the tests will confirm that, but they could also say you have an allergy when you don’t.

You may need food allergy testing is you’re experiencing reactions like reddening of the skin, swollen lips and eyelids, a tightening of the throat and hives. Food allergy testing could be a good idea for children and adults having these reactions.

Usually a food allergy will appear once a person has eaten, inhaled or simply come into contact with a food or food additive. Children are commonly allergic to cow’s milk, hen’s eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soybeans and wheat, while adults are generally allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, fish, crustaceans(shrimp), mollusks(mussels), fruits and vegetables.
