Eczema in Children
Many people will be shocked to know that eczema is actually considered to be a childhood ailment. Eczema in children (also called atopic eczema or infant eczema) is extremely common in young children as their immune systems develop. Most children outgrow the skin condition by the time they are 5 or 6 years old; however, some people do suffer from the condition into adulthood.
Eczema in children usually manifests itself on the scalp and face and appears as boil-like blisters that may ooze. As children age, the rashes may move to other parts of the body, such as the arms, legs, and torso and become more flakey in appearance.
Though eczema in children is fairly common, it can still be very painful for young children who don't understand what is happening to them. While eczema is not contagious, it is important to instruct your child not to scratch at the rash in order to prevent injury and to provide eczema relief.
Your child may be confused or concerned by the itching, so you may want to take your child to your doctor so he or she can explain the condition to them and recommend the best eczema treatment option for your child.
