Conjunctivitis Viral Infection: What are Some Pink Eye Symptoms and Possible Treatments?
In addition to bacterial, one common form of pink eye is conjunctivitis from a viral infection. Unlike a conjunctivitis bacterial infection, viral conjunctivitis is usually associated with another form of viral infection, most commonly colds, sore throats, or respiratory infections due to the adenovirus. Conjunctivitis viral infections usually begin in one eye and then spread to both as the affliction progresses.
While viral conjunctivitis is usually developed through other illness and viral infection, it is not any less contagious than its bacterial counterpart. Children and people with suppressed immune systems are most susceptible to developing a conjunctivitis viral infection.
Symptoms of viral conjunctivitis include:
- Watery discharge
- Redness
- Itching
- Infection in one or both eyes
- Sore throat
- Pain or discomfort
- Light sensitivity
Unlike bacterial conjunctivitis, viral infections have no effective treatment. It is important to speak to your doctor to determine which type of pink eye you may be suffering from. He or she will likely be able to recommend ways to help relieve the discomfort of your viral infection while it runs its course.
