Colonic Weight Loss Results from Eliminated Waste, Not Fat
When a person gets a colonic, weight loss sometimes follows. This occurs because built-up waste in the colon is flushed out so the body becomes lighter. Not all colonic patients lose weight, and when it does occur, the amount of weight loss varies anywhere from a few to 20 pounds. If there is significant build-up in the intestine, a patient may notice a flatter stomach and narrower waist after the procedure. However, it's important to note that changes in appearance and any weight loss after colonic procedures are not due to fat elimination.
Furthermore, most members of the medical community would discourage their patients from using colonics for weight loss, instead recommending the following strategies:
- Maintaining a lower-calorie, healthy diet that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy and meats
- Exercising 30 to 60 minutes daily
- Avoiding high-fat and highly processed foods
- Staying well hydrated
Doctors prefer these methods for weight loss over colonic cleansing because they are proven to reduce fat accumulation and retention in the vast majority of patients, and they have a variety of other benefits for the body including increased heart health, long-term prevention of diseases, and more. Beyond that, the doctor-recommended strategies for weight loss don't come with the risks associated with colonic cleansing, such as infection, imbalance of bacteria in colon, perforation of the bowel walls, and dehydration.
If you'd like to lose weight, it's best to meet with your doctor to create a weight loss plan that's tailored to your needs. This ensures that any other health issues you may have are properly addressed.
