What Is a Colon Detox?

“Detox” is short for detoxification. In popular culture, most people hear about detox as it applies people recovering from drug or alcohol addiction. However, detox can also be a general process of removing toxic wastes and poisons from the body. More specifically, colon detox is the practice of removing pollutants, chemicals, parasites, and old fecal matter from the colon. These materials are thought to clog the large intestine and prevent healthy digestion. By performing a colon detox, people hope to stop the absorption of toxic chemicals and increase the absorption of nutrients from the food they eat.

Colon detox may be achieved through a colon cleansing diet or colonic irrigation. Whether a colon detox is achieved with diet, medications, or a clinical procedure, it’s important to understand that colon detox is a considerable undertaking that should not be overdone. For example, you can’t detox with a colonic irrigation once a day or once a week. Performing a colon detox completely flushes out the colon from mucus, bacteria (both good and bad), and nutrients. After a colon detox, the body needs time to replenish healthy bacteria and electrolytes.

There’s no doubt that the colon is an important part of the body, and it needs to be maintained to stay healthy. Without a properly maintained colon, individuals may suffer from a plethora of unexplained symptoms like sluggishness, lack of concentration, allergies, bloating, and sinus congestion. These are the symptoms that urge people to try a colon detox, usually through a juice fasting diet or a fruit-and-vegetable only diet.

A colon detox can help you get a “clean start” in colon health, but to maintain a healthy colon on a day-to-day basis, it’s recommended that you continue a healthy eating plan, exercise regularly, and try a safe, natural colon cleanse like Växa Colon-Aid+.
