A
Spastic Colon Can Be a Life-Altering Syndrome
Spastic colon, also known as Irritable
Bowel Syndrome, can be found in every one out of five Americans.
The syndrome is characterized by abdominal cramps, frequent diarrhea
or constipation and can either cause mild discomfort or hinder a
person’s everyday life.
A spastic colon, which some say
is a misnomer, also causes bloating and abdominal pain. No one is
quite sure why people suffer from a spastic colon but there are
symptoms that show you may be suffering from it:
- Mucus in the stool
- Bloated feeling
- Excessive gas
- Mild to severe abdominal cramps and pain
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
The spastic colon condition is
a common one and can be triggered by several things. A major trigger
is a poor diet. Eating foods like carbonated beverages, chocolate
or milk may lead to a spastic colon episode. Stress can also cause
a person to have a spastic colon episode. People who suffer from
spastic colon have reported their conditions worsening when they
are stressed.
If you’re experiencing
spastic colon symptoms, consult your doctor. Most people who have
been diagnosed now receive treatment that helps them lead a normal
life.
