A Colon Cleansing Diet is Good for Your Health

Your colon: it is the body’s waste management system. When you don’t take care of it properly, it affects your body and your well-being. You can experience issues like kidney infections, abdominal cramps, constipation and even toe-nail fungus, according to Ken Babal, a certified nutritionist. This is why a colon cleansing diet is essential to your health.

A colon cleansing diet can be less intrusive than a procedure like colon hydrotherapy. Colon hydrotherapy involves inserting a hose into your rectum and washing out toxins with water in different temperatures and with various amounts of pressure. This process can be expensive and take about an hour to complete. If you want something less intense, try a colon cleansing diet to accomplish similar results.

A colon cleansing diet consists of four main items: fiber, green foods, fermented foods and water.

Fiber:

  • Vegetables, nuts, beans and whole grains—these items are high in fiber
  • Fiber sweeps out debris from the colon
  • Fiber helps stimulate the colon to increase bowel movements
  • Insoluble and soluble fiber is needed daily for healthy bowel movements
  • Insoluble fiber prevents constipation; soluble fiber prevents harmful bacteria from accumulating

Green Foods:

  • Wheatgrass, barley grass and other green foods are essential in a colon cleansing diet
  • These foods contain chlorophyll, which helps repair tears in the colon

Fermented Foods:

  • Loads of carbohydrates and not enough fiber result in a low number of friendly bacteria in the colon. Fermented foods are good for a colon cleansing diet because they increase the body’s friendly bacteria content.

Water:

  • Is important in a colon cleansing diet because it helps wash out toxins

The colon has a huge part in absorbing necessary nutrients and flushing out the toxins the body doesn’t need. Still, this organ needs your help to make this happen in an efficient way; a colon cleansing diet is a good place to start.
