Toxic
Heavy Metals Can Lead to Serious Illnesses
In small amounts, many
metals are essential for staying healthy. Women are constantly told
they need more iron. Because their bodies don’t absorb the
nutrient as well as men, women are in danger of iron deficiency
anemia. Anemia decreases oxygen in the blood, and it can cause tiredness,
headaches and depression. Still, there are limits for everything,
and that includes the intake of toxic heavy metals like iron.
Iron, as well as arsenic, lead, mercury and cadmium, are toxic heavy
metals that can affect the body if taken in large amounts. These
toxic heavy metals can build up in a person’s system and cause
serious complications. This is a list of the toxic heavy metals
and what they can do to your system if you’re not careful:
- Arsenic—this is one of the most dangerous
toxic heavy metals. It is naturally released into the environment
through the smelting process of copper, zinc and lead. It can
also be found in the world’s water supply, contaminating
shellfish and fish. People can unknowingly come into contact
with toxic heavy metals like arsenic through paint, fungicides
and wood preservatives. This can be harmful if constant. It
may lead to diseases of the blood, kidneys, digestive system,
and central nervous system.
- Lead—of the toxic heavy metals, this
is the second worst. Lead has been linked to many cases of metal
poisoning in children. For many years, it was used in pipes
and drains, and it can be found in the paint of homes built
before the 1970s. If inhaled or ingested for a long period of
time, toxic heavy metals like lead can lead to diseases of the
bones, blood and brain.
- Mercury—the degassing of the earth’s
crust naturally emits mercury into the environment. When it
rains, mercury is dispersed and is later found in water and
in fish. It used to be found in fungicides and household paint,
but this additive was banned in the 90s. However, it is still
used in thermometers, medicines and children’s vaccines.
It is thought that these vaccines may be responsible for autism.
Mercury, one of the toxic heavy metals, is also thought to affect
the gastrointestinal tract, brain and kidneys.
If you think you’ve come in contact
with toxic heavy metals like arsenic, mercury, iron, cadmium and
mercury, consult a physician immediately. The faster you are diagnosed,
the quicker your doctor can treat you.
