Achieving Cardiovascular Health Without Medications

Despite the staggering facts that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the No. 1 killer in America, and that 910,000 Americans died last year of CVD, accounting for over 40 percent of all deaths, most Americans don't think that cardiovascular health is a big concern - until something goes wrong.

If you're a woman, you may believe that being female protects you from heart disease. If you're a man, you may believe you're not old enough to have a serious heart condition. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in the United States-of both men and women. It affects many people at midlife as well as in old age. African Americans and Latinos are at especially high risk for heart disease. The good news is that cardiovascular health is attainable for everyone without the use of prescription medications.

You can drastically improve cardiovascular health by focusing on your lifestyle and habits. As an adult, you can make lifestyle changes that can set a good example for children who also need to develop the life-long habits necessary for establishing cardiovascular health.

Threats to Cardiovascular Health

Probably the major underlying threat to cardiovascular health is atherosclerosis, also known as hardening of the arteries. In time, this degenerative disease can narrow or block arteries in the heart, brain, and other parts of the body. It may begin early in life. The linings of the arteries become thickened and roughened by deposits of fat, cholesterol, fibrin (a clotting material), cellular debris and calcium.

As this buildup on the inner walls becomes hard and thick, arteries lose their ability to expand and contract. The blood moves with difficulty through the narrowed artery channels. This makes it easier for a clot to form that will block the channel and deprive the heart, brain, and other organs of the necessary blood supply.
When a complete blockage occurs in a vessel to the brain, the result may be a cerebral thrombosis, a form of stroke. Scientists acknowledge the relationship between the amount of cholesterol and saturated fats in the bloodstream, and coronary artery disease - a blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle itself.
Chelation Therapy Improves Cardiovascular Health

Chelation therapy has been proven effective in improving cardiovascular health by removing the buildup on the inner walls of the arteries by a gentle cleansing action. EDTA chelation is a therapy by which repeated administrations of a weak synthetic amino acid (EDTA, ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid) gradually reduce atherosclerotic plaque and other mineral deposits throughout the cardiovascular system by literally dissolving them away. The Russians use chelation therapy as the second most common treatment for atherosclerotic artery disease. It is also the preferred method of treatment in Czechoslovakia.

Oral chelation "grabs" a number of unwanted substances - fat, fibrin, calcium, etc. - that can cause plaque build up and free-radical damage from the cardiovascular system, renders them harmless, and prepares them for excretion through the urine.

Heavy metal overload in the walls of coronary arteries seems to decrease levels of nitric oxide, a compound known as "Endothelial Relaxing Factor,"- without this substance normal blood flow is impeded therefore increasing the risk of vascular blockages. Chelation therapy can improve cardiovascular health by removing heavy metals from the blood stream and the artery walls.

The only apparent differences between intravenous chelation therapy and oral chelation are that the medication is administered by a drip directly into your blood stream, where it begins to work slightly faster than oral administration. Both are extremely effective in improving cardiovascular health. Intravenous chelation therapy must be prescribed and overseen by a physician.

Heart disease is a lifelong condition. Once you get it, you'll always have it. But there is much you can do to control the risk factors for heart disease, prevent a heart attack, improve your cardiovascular health and increase your chances for a long and vital life.
