Candida Infection: Not Just a Woman's Problem
When people hear the term candida infection, also commonly called a yeast infection, many automatically assume that this is an issue only women have to deal with. The fact of the matter is that this is not true; men and women of all ages can suffer from a candida infection.
This common misconception is due to the fact that many people don't understand what causes a candida infection. Everyone person has a wide range of fungi and bacteria growing in their bodies that help regulate a variety of body functions. Sometimes, for a many different reasons, these helpful organisms can grow out of control and begin to do the opposite of what they are intended, resulting in an infection. A candida infection is an overgrowth of yeast in the body, and can occur in many parts of the body.
The most common types of candida infections are:
- Vaginal
- Mouth (thrush)
- Skin
- Diaper rash
Candida treatment can range from topical creams to changes in diet, and depend on the type and severity of your infection. In most cases, these infections will easily clear up in a few days when the fungi have returned to a normal level.
