Body
pH Levels and a pH Balanced Diet
Whether
you realize it or not, your internal organs are in a constant state
of trying to maintain proper body pH levels. Diet has a lot to do
with sustaining your body pH. How? When the
food you eat is digested and metabolized, it will leave either an
acidic or alkaline residue in your tissues. Consequently, your body
must work to balance these acidic and alkaline residues, thereby
maintaining the correct acid alkaline level to keep you healthy
and energetic.
Body
pH levels, diet, and balanced nutrition play a key role in stabilizing
your body fluids. To function properly, everyone’s body should
remain slightly alkaline, at pH levels of around 7.34-7.45. As your
body digests and metabolizes food, your organs are continually working
to keep your body within these normal body pH levels.
Unfortunately,
many of the foods in the modern diet are acid producing. An acid
producing diet that negatively affects body pH levels includes pork,
beef, turkey, fish, corn oil, coffee, chocolate, breads, and pastas.
These foods put your organs in a constant state of removing acids
and bringing the body back to a slightly alkaline level. In theory,
if you consume a diet that is more alkaline, the nutrition you take
in will match the pH levels at which you body should remain to fight
disease and be healthy. Then your body would not have to work so
hard to maintain a balance in pH levels.
If
you want to promote healthier alkaline body pH levels through diet,
it is recommended that you consume more fruits, vegetables, and
legumes. A pH balanced diet that has a healthy, alkaline effect
on body pH levels would include garlic, broccoli, cucumber, spinach,
pumpkin, onions, apples, oranges, tomatoes, almonds, soy, beans,
and so on.
You
may be thinking that some of the alkaline foods seem as if they
would be acidic, especially oranges and tomatoes. While these foods
are acidic before they are digested, once they are metabolized,
they have an alkaline effect on your body pH levels.
Maintaining
healthy body pH levels through a pH balanced diet that’s higher
in alkaline foods is believed to help you body hold on to essential
nutrients that are lost when the body rids itself of acid residue.
Restoring body pH equilibrium with a healthy diet of more fruits,
vegetables, and legumes also agrees with current advice that these
foods provide countless other nutritional benefits.
