Body pH - Why Is It Important and How Can You Maintain a Healthy Level?
Body pH, which stands for potential of hydrogen, is important in regulating normal cell and body functions. PH is measured on a level of 0-14, with 7 being neutral. Pure water is often considered to be a neutral substance, while fluids above a pH of seven, like milk of magnesia, are considered alkaline. Fluids below seven, like lemon juice, are categorized as acidic. In order for our bodies to function properly, our body pH must maintain a level between 7.35 and 7.45, or slightly alkaline.
When body pH falls below these levels and starts to become acidic, it can cause all kinds of problems, such as:
- Fatigue
- Illness
- Bone weakness
- Increased risk of blood clots
- Heart disease
- Weakened immune system
- Much more
Maintaining a healthy body pH isn't as difficult as it seems. By eating a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables and staying active, your body can normally maintain proper pH levels on its own. However, there are many supplements available which contain alkaline minerals like calcium and magnesium and are believed to help your body maintain pH.
