Ayurvedic Weight Loss
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medicinal practice, which, like most other Eastern medicines, focuses heavily on the balance of energy and elements within the body. When these energies become imbalanced, it is believed to result in illness and injury. In ayurveda, these energies are called doshas, and each person has a different type of ayurveda dosha made up of different elements. These elements can be influenced by just about anything, including food, which is how ayurvedic weight loss comes into play.
Being overweight or underweight is believed to be due to an imbalance of one's dosha, and some are more prone to ayurvedic weight loss than others:
- Pitta - people of this dosha tend to be of a medium build, but can become overweight if digestion is slow. With fire as the predominant element, it needs to stay well "lit" in order to maintain proper metabolism.
- Kapha - individuals of the kapha dosha have a higher chance of becoming overweight. With water and earth elements, they have the potential to become exaggerated, so this dosha requires extra care in maintaining a healthy weight.
- Vata - unlike the other doshas, those under vata are at a higher risk of being underweight. Following ayurveda recipes and remedies that suit their type is believed to help them maintain a healthy weight.
Ayurveda practitioners believe there are not set rules or weights for what makes a person healthy and that it is based purely on their body type and what is healthier for their natural size. By maintaining a diet that suits their dosha and keeping their body's elements in a correct balance, it is believed that those who need ayurvedic weight loss can reach and control their weight. |
