Ayurvedic Medicine
Considered to be one of the oldest of the Eastern medicines, ayurvedic medicine has been widely practiced throughout India and the East. For its time, it was one of the most modern of the ancient Eastern medicines, and in fact ayurvedic medicine is still practiced as part of routine care in many parts of India.
As with most Eastern practices, ayurvedic medicine focuses on the concept that everyone and everything in the universe is made of different energies. Called doshas, these elemental energies influence everything in a person’s life from their physical makeup to their personalities. When these energies become unbalanced, it is believed to result in injury, illness, and disease if not corrected.
Ayurvedic medicine uses a variety of remedies and treatments in an attempt to correct these imbalances, and have even influenced many modern practices. British doctors learned these techniques from the practicing ayurvedic doctors and brought them back to England where they helped influence modern medicine.
These ayurveda remedies include:
- Herbal medicine
- Massage
- Meditation
- Plastic surgery
- Amputation
- Diet and nutrition
- Martial arts
- Yoga
- Surgery
- Many others
While ayurvedic medicine is still widely practiced and is becoming increasing popular in the Western world, it is still important that you consult with your physician before you begin this, or any other alternative treatment. |
