Pycnogenol
Research
A common antioxidant,
pycnogenol is found in a variety of substances, but most commonly
in Pine Bark. As with most antioxidants, pycnogenol helps aid in
the repair of “free radicals,” or cells that were damaged
during the oxidation process. These cells cause damage to neighboring
cells, and in turn can cause stress to your body and mind. The benefits
of pycnogenol are plentiful and include:
- Prevention and treatment of cough and congestion
due to cold or flu
- Concentration improvement, since substances
like White Pine Bark are thought to help treat ADHD
- Improved circulation and blood flow
- Reduced risk of certain serious conditions
- Lower blood pressure
When combined with L-arginine, it has also
been found that pycnogenol can increase libido and help treat erectile
dysfunction. Pycnogenol is also commonly recommended for use in preventing
blood clots and swelling in your legs due to long flights or other
extended periods of inactivity.
When combining anything with current medications, it is important
to consult with your physician before incorporating any supplement
into your regime.
