Alkaline pH and What Can Cause Abnormal pH Levels in Your Body

Alkaline pHThough not often discussed when you visit your doctor for normal checkups, your body pH balance is an important aspect of your health. It helps to regulate vital functions like tissue and cell growth, and maintaining an alkaline pH is important to keep problems from occurring. Normally, humans have a slightly alkaline pH at around 7.35-7.45. When your body's pH dips below 7 on a 0-14 scale and becomes acidic you may run the risk of developing complications such as fatigue, low bone density, stunted cell repair, and may increase your chances of developing some diseases.

There are a variety of factors that determine normal body pH, and that can cause it to drop into an acidic range. They include:

  • Stress
  • Exposure to toxins
  • Certain foods
  • Immune deficiencies
  • Heredity
  • Much more

Having a highly acidic pH may cause a variety of health complications. It is believed that having a low pH balance can cause fatigue, poor immune function, increase your risk for certain diseases, weaken your bones, and much more.

Maintaining a healthy diet and active lifestyle can help keep your body at normal alkaline pH levels. If you suspect you may be suffering from a pH imbalance, you can easily test your levels using pH test strips for urine or saliva. Your doctor may also be able recommend ways to determine whether or not you need to take pH supplements or change your diet in order to maintain a healthy alkaline pH level.
