ADHD Attention - A Problem for Sufferers of All Ages
ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a condition in which people experience feelings of restlessness, irritability, and trouble concentrating. Though it is often thought to be an issue that only children suffer from, research is showing that if not properly treated, sufferers can continue to experience symptoms of ADHD well into adulthood. Of these symptoms, the most common and often troublesome are those associated with attention problems.
ADHD attention problems can cause issues for sufferers of all ages. Even though it is more prevalent in children and teenagers, ADHD can also affect the quality of lives for adults as well. Lack of attention can cause issues in areas such as:
- Poor grades - Children and college students who suffer from ADHD can have trouble focusing in class, which can result in bad grades even though they are intelligent and understand the material.
- Trouble with work - ADHD can continue to plague sufferers into adulthood. Much like children who have trouble paying attention in school, failure to focus can lead to trouble at work for adults. This may lead to poor job performance and result in low pay, few promotions, or even termination.
- Relationships - Those who suffer from ADHD attention problems may find it difficult to maintain relationships with their peers because it may be hard for them to remember important dates or to focus during conversations. It also may make the sufferer seem rude or disinterested, which isn't always true.
