Acne Medications, Side Effects of Corticosteroids, Androgens & Contraceptives

Acne associated with with hormones, puberty, and chronic emotional stress can be treated in a number of ways. Pimples form when bacterium grows under clogged pores in the mixture of sebum (oily secretion of the sebaceous gland) and dead cells. Acne caused by hormonal changes may not respond to over the counter topical acne medications that work on teenagers.

There are a number of acne medications available. Choice of treatment is dependent on the type acne:

The treatment option may include oral contraceptives, oral Corticoseteroids (anti-inflammatory drugs), or Antiandrogens (reduce androgen productions).

Oral contraceptives are a combination of estrogen and progestin formulated to alter a female's hormone pattern. This form of medication can alter androgen production therefore, low-doses are prescribed to treat hormonal acne. The Food and Drug Administration recently approved an oral contraceptive for the treatment of mild to moderate acne. There are side effects associated with this form of treatment, which include nausea, weight gain, menstrual spotting, and breast tenderness.

Oral corticosteriods are anti-inflammatory medications that belong to a class of drugs produced by the adrenal glands. When there is overactive production of androgens, the corticosteroids can be prescribed to suppress inflammation and androgen production. The side effects associated with oral corticosteroids may cause weight gain and bone thinning.

Androgens are a class of acne medications that reduce androgen production and block androgen reception by the sebaceous follicles. The reduction of androgen results in a decrease in Acne. Antiandrogens may cause irregular menstruation and breast tenderness. Accompanying it with an oral contraceptive may ease these side effects.

Many choose natural alternative medications that offer minimal side effects. When pores become clogged and the body is lacking certain nutrients to remove the excess debris, they can become infected and inflamed causing skin blemishes.

Clearin is a homeopathic medicinal that is available without a prescription and does not have any of the dangerous side effects associated with many acne medications.

Clearin is a specific formulation which addresses the body's nutritional needs during these very special times, complementing the body's miraculous system of cleansing and purifying internally. When the body's specific yet changing nutritive requirements are addressed, the body has the power to heal itself, clearing away unsightly blemishes, spots, and pimples caused by hormonal changes, leaving your skin youthfully creamy, soft, and inviting.
